Choose what matters most
The Oberland cliff path and views of Lange Anna represent Helgoland’s rocky side. Düne is a separate sandy island. For a day visit, choose one of these destinations first. Time spent aboard is not time ashore: count from when you actually disembark until the time you must be back at the pier.
Allow for reaching the Oberland
Stairs and a lift connect the Unterland and Oberland. Check which access suits your group, particularly if walking is difficult. Choosing one viewpoint can be more relaxing than attempting an entire circuit against the clock. Stay on open paths and consider wind and local notices. Photos, breaks and the descent also take time.
Düne means another crossing
Reaching Düne requires a separate crossing from the main island. Check its current service and return options before committing to the visit. Do not treat this transfer as an interchangeable extension of your mainland ticket. If the available time barely covers the crossings and a visit, save Düne for a longer stay.
Watch seals without approaching
The municipality specifies a minimum distance of 30 metres from the animals. Respect barriers and ranger instructions as well. Binoculars help you watch from a distance; a photograph is no reason to enter a closed area. Plan your return regardless of whether animals appear: wildlife sightings cannot be ordered.
Common questions
Can I combine the Oberland and Düne?
Only with enough time ashore and suitable transfers. For a short visit, we recommend one main destination rather than a fixed two-part itinerary.
